The Last 10 Years - Chapter 11 - Brent's Favorite Toy
During the early years of our marriage Brent always told me that he wanted to buy a Mustang when he was done with school and could afford it. The day finally arrived in April 2007. Except by that time Brent had decided a Mustang would not be conducive to Northern Utah winters, especially since he drives through Sardine Canyon 3days a week for work. He began looking at other sports cars, the ones with all-wheel drive and good gas mileage and narrowed it down to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, the Infiniti G35, and the Subaru Impreza WRX STi. He went to dealerships to look at all three cars and when he test-drove the Subaru, that was the end of his search. It was love at first drive.
Brent told the kids his car is a "muscle car" because it has a lot of power. Brooky calls it "Daddy's Muscle Car." It's pretty cute the way she says it. The Muscle Car was developed to be an offroad rally racer and has 300 horsepower, 294 pounds of torque, 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, and "freakin' rocks in the in the snow!" (Said Brent.) Well, I don't really know what any of that stuff means but that's all about Brent's car. I also am not allowed to drive it because Brent doesn't trust me. Actually, he is well justified since the Muscle Car is a stick-shift and I can't drive those.
The Muscle Car draws some attention. About a year ago Brent went to the drive through at Taco Bell. There was this teenage kid there working the drive up window, totally bored to death and obviously hating his job. When Brent drove up the kid got some life back in his eyes and really perked up. He said to Brent, "Dude....Can I drive your car?" Brent told him no. (Wouldn't you?)
