H1N1

I'm curious, did you get an H1N1 vaccination? Did you have your kids vaccinated? What were your reasons for doing this? What were your reasons for declining? What were your concerns? I'm just curious, I'm not judging anyone's choices or trying to start a debate, I'm just wondering. So tell me.

I did get mine, My kids have also gotten theirs.
Reasons? Mainly due to being pregnant and being STRONGLY urged by Dr. Since I've been told I'm at higher risk of it becoming fatal in prego women in third trimester... Babies are also higher risk. and lucky me, mine will be born right smack dab in the middle of flu season.
Kids were done for the exact same reason and to help keep them from getting it. ( think of all those fun lil germs we get to bring home from school and share with a newborn....yikes.)
My main reason was fear for our soon to be newborn... last thing I need is a sick baby.
Better safe then sorry.

First...digging the family photo!

We all got the H1N1 shot. I think our biggest reason is one that if something did happen and Isaiah did catch it or one of us did and it ends badly and we could have prevented it...we just didn't want to take the chance. (and we're all more then fine after taking it) The other reason is because of where we live. Matt goes into houses where people use a bucket in the middle of a bedroom as a bathroom and don't dispose of it until the bucket is full. (if then) I know....WAY too much information. But we just know that disease can run rapid in an area like this....just not gonna do it! You wanna know what else I do because the ol POPS (you may remember my "front row seat at church" father) heard a -- myth/maybe truth -- that having an un-peeled onion in a bowl (where I can't see it easily of course) in each room can help. It's said to take on the virus and self contain a virus in the onion. I figure even if it's a myth....onions are cheap and don't stink when they're not peeled. Worth a try!

Whoa....long response.

My kids have both been vaccinated...Phil and myself have not yet because it only just opened to everyone here. If my doctor offers when I take my kids for their H1N1 boosters then I will get it. I am sick of going into the doctors! I figured that the possible side effects of the vaccine where better than having H1N1. I wanted to protect my kids. It was also right after there were multiple deaths of children in Ontario before the vaccine was even released.

I didn't vaccinate, I can't vaccinate Alton who is my biggest risk because of the egg in flue shots. We have had the swine flue and are fine. I think the media is making it worse than it is. I am also one of those who is not a fan of vaccinations because of side effects I have seen in my own family.

I haven't had mine yet but I will get it when it's available. I get it at work but they have only given it to the high risk areas so far. I thought that my area was high risk! The reasons? Obvious for me, but I also really believe in flu vaccines if you can have one. No 1..I believe they work! No 2...The only year that I didn't get one in the last 20 years, I got the flu. It is really unusual for me to even get a sniffle during flu season and I believe it's because of the shot and a pretty good immune system.

All my kids have had theirs as they have been the only ones up to this point that have been able to get it. I really don't want them to get sick, simple as that. And if this will help prevent it, I'm there. The big kids had sore arms for a day or two but Cooper had no problems. I've just got to find out where I can even get mine as my doctor isn't doing them.

Declan got his because I just don't want him getting that sick. I was in the hospital surrounded with people wiht H1N1 and the idea of Declan being that sick frightened me. I went for his booster today to find out he doesn't need it!! WOO HOO!!
As for me...my doc is bombarded with people asking for it...so I'm waiting for it to be at my pharmacy and then I'll let work prick me.
Can't be too bad right? Wrong...I hate needles!!!

I've been undecided about it. I know that the media has totally blown it out of proportion. More people die of the regular every year than have died from H1N1 so far. Brian has gotten it, and he gets the flu shot every year, because he is a doctor and in contact with lots of people everyday. Personally, I've never gotten the flu shot, and the only time my kids have, was when they were under 2 and at high risk. I figured if we don't bother to get the regular flu shot, why bother with the H1N1 shot, as this flu is less severe. But, Brian insisted the kids get it becuase H1N1 is more serious for kids under 5, so my two youngest have gotten it, but no one else has yet. They just opened it up for everyone last week. I don't think that I, myself will get it, but I think Brian really wants the other two to get it, where they're at school everyday. So we'll see. I hate needles a lot a lot. They scare me. And no shot is 100% effective, so I think I'll take my chances. Hope I didn't just jinx myself. I should mention that none of us are allergic to eggs or anything, or have asthma or any underlying medical conditions, otherwise, my answer may be different.
