Summer Recap

I have failed miserably at blogging about our activities this summer.  I thought I'd do a brief recap here.  Sadly, I took almost no pictures.

*Damon and I went to Cub Scout day camp at Camp Fife.

*Brittany went to Young Women camp.

*The three older kids took swimming lessons at Mountain Crest.  Brittany and Brooklyn passed their final levels and became eligible for the Marlins swim team.  Brooklyn chose to join and is loving it.

*Brent went fishing in Alaska.  Our freezer currently holds nearly 100 pounds of fish.

*The kids and I spent a week at Bear Lake.  

*Brent and Damon went backpacking in the Wind Rivers.

*Maya discovered grasshoppers this past week and loves playing with them.

*Brittany, Brooklyn and I attended Grandpa and Grandma Bartlett's 60th wedding anniversary celebration.

This summer probably wasn't the most exciting one we've had and I think we were all ready for school to begin.  I'm not usually one of those moms that loves to send her kids back to school, but this year I was ready.

Parade

Brittany decided to join the marching band this year. She plays the marimba. The band participates in a lot of parades and marched in the River Heights parade last Saturday. I thought Maya would enjoy the parade so she and I went and watched Brittany. Since the pit section cannot march with their instruments, they hold the shields and march in front of the rest of the band. Brittany is the last on on the right, holding the "T".

New House

We are building a new house!  This project has been in the works for a long time and we chose to keep it a secret until "Dig Day" because of how frustrating the process has been.  We began this adventure in February 2013 when we found the "lot of our dreams".  This piece of land was perfect.  Perfect location (in Providence), perfect size (0.96 acre), perfect orientation (house will face west).   The development process was long and difficult.  Providence City is not easy to work with.  Their requirements are extensive and often times ridiculous and unnecessary.  We've jumped through all kinds of hoops to get to where we are. We are building with Mt. Sterling Custom Homes.  They have a great reputation for designing and building high quality homes.  I had found a house plan that I really liked, had done some tweaking myself, then took it in to Mt.
